    Summertime Self-Care: 7 Ways to Take Care of Yourself this Season

    Summer is such a great time a year! Kids are out of school and lots of time is spent with friends and family whether it's at a BBQ or hanging around a pool. There are so many great family events around summertime, but it is important to remember to take time out for yourself also and enjoy a little self-care.  Here are seven summertime self-care tips that you need to jump on fast!

    1. Sunscreen


    First and foremost, protect your skin! Even though this is something you should be wearing all year, summer people tend to be outside more whether it's enjoying the outdoors or at an outdoor event. So make sure to wear your sunscreen and protect your skin! 



    2. Drink more water


    I’m sure you hear this all the time to drink more water, but hydration is incredibly important for your overall well being. And with the higher heat index in the summertime, it is even more important to stay hydrated. You’ll really be amazed at the difference you feel and look by simply drinking more water.


    To make it easier, buy a gallon size water jug from the store, or there are so many cute reusable containers out there these days that will help you keep track of your water intake. Just simply fill it up each morning and drink up! Your body will love you for it, I promise! 



    3. Spend time outside


    During the summer, there is more sunlight to indulge, so why not spend it outdoors enjoying it? Whether it’s sitting outside enjoying a book, having a picnic, going for a walk or hike in your local park, or even getting to the beach. Just get outside and enjoy the weather and take advantage of the sunshine, plus it’ll get you a little extra B12! Who doesn't want that?!



    4. Tackle one bad habit


    Everyone has bad habits that they would love to kick. It’s much easier to tackle bad habits when you focus on one at a time. So pick one of yours, whether it's to stop smoking, quit biting your nails, or stop drinking soda, and focus on quitting the habit. It takes about 21 days to create or quit a habit, so summer is a perfect time to pick one to focus on.

    5. Declutter your living space


    It’s been proven that a cluttered space can make a cluttered mind, so summer is the perfect time to “marie kondo” your home! Do one space at a time and we recommend to start with the space you spend most of your time. Living room, bedroom, office... whichever room you like.  Start by getting rid of the things that you don’t use. That old desktop computer that no one uses, clothes you haven't worn in 5 years, toys your kids never play with, the twenty wooden spoons in the kitchen drawer..  only keep things that bring you or your family joy or that is needed! You’ll be surprised at how much lighter and better you feel after you get rid of all the excess you don't need! 



    6. Savor fresh fruits and veggies 


    There are so many great fruits and vegetables in season during summertime so why not savor the deliciousness! If you have a local farmers market, that’s even better because they’ll be even fresher. Even challenge yourself to try new stuff just because. You might even find your new favorite food! Plus eating more fresh fruits and vegetables will make you feel wonderful and so much healthier. 

    7. Do something just for you


     Is there a hobby that you’ve always wanted to try? Gardening, pottery, painting.. Why not go ahead and start? Taking time for yourself and do a task or hobby just for you will really make you feel so accomplished, refreshed and can make you feel so much better about yourself. It's not selfish to take time for yourself, it's self-care! 



    Most of all summertime is about enjoying yourself, your family and friends. Don't stress about going to every event, just relax, slow down, kick back and unwind! Make sure to nurture your needs, and make sure to enjoy yourself!
